Introducing the Jupiter Silkweave Cloth...
Jupiter Silkweave Micro Filament Cleaning Cloth is woven ten times finer than the finest silk. Its microscopic pores actually pick up oil from fingers as well as lubricant residue and dust.
Like a fine silk cleaning cloth it does so without any abrasion. It protects the most delicate finish including gold, silver and platinum. In fact it is the cloth trusted by owners of rare violins.
The Jupiter Silkweave cleaning cloth contains no chemicals. It is pure fibre. It never has lint and is completely washable.
Maintaining the finish of your instrument should not be an afterthought. Just like brushing your teeth everyday (assuming you AREN'T a banjo player), the discipline of wiping down your instrument after playing and prior to returning it to its case should be habitual and subconscious.
The effects of perspiration, rubbing, smudging though incremental, can be devastating over time. Oil from your skin (especially those of you cursed with "acid sweat") is hard enough on eroding and oxidizing strings, but the finish of your instrument is something to be concerned about.
Of course, commercial polishes are out there for that occasional "Spring Cleaning," but the best preventative measure and protection for your instrument is a simple untreated soft cloth. Micro-fibre or chamois is great; you especially want to avoid Terry cloth (towel) or anything with harsh fibers. You may not notice immediately the long term destruction yielded from a bad cloth, but unfortunately once the damage is done, it's irreversible. It's as permanent as a crusty booger in the Family Bible.

Wiping fingerprints off the instrument daily is your best course. Anywhere your skin touches or perspiration through your shirt should be addressed. Wipe the entire back of the instrument, the top where your hands and forearm are in contact. The metal of tailpiece is also subject to corrosion over time and simply wiping fingerprints not only makes it look nice close up, it cuts natural deterioration to a fraction.

Cleaning the headstock tuners helps, too. The longer you let the residue build up, the harder it is to remove, so run the risk of pricking your fingers with those E strings. The best musicians are always willing to give a little blood for their music!
We recommend leaving the cloth open and around the top of the instrument while it rests in the case. This keeps the cloth handy at all times, keeps it from bunching up and marring the finish, and allows it to dry just like a towel after a day at the beach.
This short-term investment of time will prevent build up, keep your instrument looking nice, and preserve its overall value.
