Sage Wisdom

"Good improvisation communicates harmonic progression melodically. Effective melodies manipulate harmonic content through the use of guide tones and preparatory gravity notes, masterfully woven in systematic tension, release, and transparent harmonic definition."

Red Lion Hornpipe, AKA Carpal Tunnel Hornpipe

No open strings: an exercise to develop 4th finger stretching and stamina.

This song presents an opportunity to use a traditional Fiddle Tune as a finger stretching exercise.

1. Substitute the 4th finger (7th fret) for all open strings. Try to keep your first finger located on the 1st or 2nd fret at all times, not necessarily covering it, but "at the ready" when called.

2. After you've mastered it, try moving it up the fingerboard to the key of B natural, C, Db, etc. With the closed fingering this is easy to do!

3. Have some fun with the altered chord progressions. This almost gives it a Texas swing kick!
