Sage Wisdom

"Good improvisation communicates harmonic progression melodically. Effective melodies manipulate harmonic content through the use of guide tones and preparatory gravity notes, masterfully woven in systematic tension, release, and transparent harmonic definition."

About the project:

Featuring a few fresh, contemporary arrangements of some familiar favorites, and original compositions, "Passed Time" bears a flavorful variety of innovative jazz thematic explorations, tailored with a commercial sensibility. Ted expresses his recent journey into parenthood with the birth of his daughter through a personally profound song, "My Daughter," and offers a clever arrangement of the University of Nebraska football fight song "Hail Varsity," guaranteed to delight the local Nebraska "Husker" fans. The rest of the album includes compositions that creatively blend acoustic and electric guitars with contemporary digital sampling technologies. Read archive reviews.

Ted Eschliman, Nebraska born, graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1980 with a Bachelor of Music in Education as a trombone major. It was there he cut his teeth as a freelance arranger, writing arrangements for swing choir and various instrumental ensembles. It wasn't until 1989 he discovered his love for the studio, after cutting his first album, The Light Within. Working with Tom Larson, he started writing copy for jingles and freelanced as a studio singer. In 1992 he produced his second solo album, An Urban Christmas, an instrumental soft jazz collection of popular Christmas favorites, achieving national critical acclaim, and moderate regional and local air play. Despite his full time commitments as part owner and marketing director of a local retail music store chain, Dietze Music, he continued to perform jingles and write instrumental beds for local radio stations, as well as co-write music for area Christian artists in his spare time. In 1998 he returned to the studio to produce his latest release, Passed Time, a collection of original songs and arrangements, available on Fire Records.

Since then, he has abandoned the studio for his new passion and "voice," the mandolin...
